Tunnel Bluffs is a scenic hike located along the Sea To Sky Highway with a viewpoint offering phenomenal views over the Howe Sound.
A perfect day hike for those seeking a semi challenging adventure in lush nature not too far from the city with a very photogenic viewpoint to reward yourself at the end. The steep and steady 8.5 km hike takes between 4-5 hours to complete for the average hiker and starts from the Tunnel Point parking lot along side the Sea To Sky Highway.

Once you've found parking, head towards the entrance of the parking lot and carefully cross the highway. There is no designated crossing zone, therefor you will have to wait for a safe opening between traffic and quickly traverse the two lane highway. Once on the other side, look for a little opening in the trees which will be the trailhead to Tunnel Bluffs. The trail is quite steep for the majority of the way but does flatten out for the last quarter of the way.
Begin the ascend instantly after entering the forest and follow along the trail minding each step. Be sure to keep an eye out of rocks falling from hikers above or towards hikers below. There are numerous lower viewpoints along thew way that veer off the main trail but none are quite as beautiful as the official Tunnel Bluff viewpoint.
Trailhead to Tunnel Bluffs
ESTIMATED DRIVING TIME FROM VANCOUVER: 45 MINUTES
Head West on the Tans Canada Highway 1 heading towards Whistler. The trailhead parking lot will be on your left after Lions Bay, but you will not be able to enter immediately. Continue a short distance further and there will be a gravel pull off on the right side of the highway. Use this pull off to turn around and head back the way you came until reaching the parking lot entrance.

VIEWPOINT AT TUNNEL BLUFFS: YES
There is a viewpoint at the top offering phenomenal views over the Howe Sound, the Sunshine Coast and Tantalus Range in the distance, as well as a view of the highway weaving through Lions Bay.
DOG FRIENDLY AT TUNNEL BLUFFS: YES
The trail to the viewpoint is dog friendly, although is not recommended for older dogs are the hike is quite steep. Please pick up after your dogs and beware of the cliff sides at the viewpoint. We advise to keep your dogs on-leash once at the top.
PARKING AT TUNNEL BLUFFS TRAILHEAD: YES
There are 20 parking spots at the Tunnel Point parking lot which fills up very fast during the summer months. Therefor we recommend you plan to arrive early to ensure parking availability.
